The Prophecy of Pope John XXIII
"Le profezie di Papa Giovanni" by Pier Carpi (published by Edizioni Mediterranee) collects some prophecies that Pope John XXIII allegedly stated in Turkey, around 1935. In one of these prophecies the Pope tells about a "barefoot saint", who has been associated with Sai Baba: In the text where Pope John tells about one of his successors, one reads:-
"Blessed, blessed, blessed. [...]Virgin Mary is near. Virgin Mary who was sacrified[...] It will be difficult the beginning of the road, walking in Rome in days of blood.[...] In your house you will admit a saint with naked feet.[...] The saint will also speak for you in every country and from the world white flowers will surround you. [...] And you will make yourself barefoot, and you will walk with the barefoot saint.[...]"
(quoted and translated from "Le profezie di Papa Giovanni" The entire series from Edizioni Milesi: this publishing house has almost nothing but publications about Sai Baba, such as the work for Edizioni Milesi by Giancarlo Rosati (a Sai Baba expert and supporter)
The prophecy doesn't seems to contain anything leading to Sathya Sai Baba. The only somewhat relevant specification is that the saint is barefoot, and Sai Baba very seldom uses sandals or other footwear. Naked feet have often been a symbol of renouncement and humbleness, so Sai Baba is far for unique in that. Futrter, the saint was prophesied as speaking for the Pope, and walking barefoot together with him. None of this has taken place, of course, and most definitely cannot do so in future either, since the present Pope Benedict is a Christain extremist who rejects as infidels all who do not believe Jesus to be the sole saviour of mankind (which Sathya Sai Baba definitively rejects!). Further, Sathya Sai Baba has for some years been incapable of walking due to a major and chronic hip joint injury.

Mr. Sugrim has a brother whose name is Mr. Gopal Singh and he lives in Toronto. Mr. Gopal had a special puja in his place last week and to those who attended he told a bit about his brothers experiences in Prashanti. He has also given me Mr. Sugrim Singh's tel. No. in Ottawa and I will be contacting him for more details, but here is part of the story: Mr. Sugrim Singh went to bhajans every mornint at 6AM. Nevertheless he got called for an interview and as it happened, he was called 5 times! Wherever he was sitting, Swami would call him!. Swami asked Mr. Singh"what do you want" and Mr. Singh replied that he did not want anything at all as long as he had Swami's love. Swami asked again but Mr. Sing did not ask for anything. Then Swami created a small container for Mr. Sing and He gave it to him. Mr. Sing did not even open the container, but when he left and he did finally open it, there was a diamond ring in it and some vibhuti which apparently does not finish. On another day,Mr.Sing was holding some photos of Swami for blessing. Swami asked him " what do you have there" and the man answre,"Swami some photos for blessing". Then Swami said: "Photos? oh no! I will give you photos!" and He apparently created about 10 photos which have on them Shirdi Sai, Sathya Sai and Shiva in the middle. These photos were also full of vibhuthi. Another time Swami asked again "what is this you are holding?" Mr. sing replied that it was a book and then Swami with the same playful nature said: "A book?, Oh No, I will give you a book!" and He proceeded to present Mr. Sing with a book which was Sathya Sai Speaks vol. 7. Mr. Sing cannot open this book as it is so full of vibhuthi on every page! (We were told Swami created this book also). Swami talked to Mr. Singh about many things and one of the important messages Mr. Singh felt he should share was that Swami said to him: "The next Pope will preach My message" We are hoping to invite Mr. Sugrim Singh to come to our Centre and share with us his experiences and hopefully we will hear more wonderful leelas! I was so happy when I heard all this I just cried and cried and then I wanted to tell the whole world! Om Sri Sai Love, Aphrodite |
The email sent to me in 2000 is fairly typical of those sent out or posted on boards by Sai devotees who make huge claims about Sai Baba's "miracles" of materialisation and other kinds. Someone who has taken the self-enhancing name 'Radhe' and who gushes tears of joy supposes here that it was very remarkable that Sai Baba called this same person to interview five times ("as it happened"??) wherever he was sitting! Has not Sai Baba eyes to see and recognise a person he has granted an interview the day before? I think even I could manage the remarkable feat of picking out the same face at darshan five times running! After all, Sai Baba has assiduous ashram officials who must register the details of every visitor. For example, all passports are delivered on each visitor's arrival at the ashrams and usually kept for some time, and photocopied, etc.). A list is kept of all those who have already donated (large) sums of money. It is well known that SSB is told all the news early every morning by the head of his ashram. This kind of tunnel vision shows the naiveté of the devotee
and the excessively overdone assertions about the extraordinary, "unfathomable
nature" of Swami, a besotted deluded uncritical witlessness well
known from hundreds of other similar accounts in Sai devotee e-mails
and books galore. It is hard for many to disbelieve such accounts when
one is surrounded by thousands in a similar state of mind, many with
their own 'incredible' wonder stories. It is so easy to be swept along
because one is hoping it is all true and one would like some attention
too, hoping for some relief from suffering and escape from the human
condition generally and wanting some grace or at least to find some
positive role in life for oneself. The vibuthi which "apparently" never
runs out is of a very elusive kind. I have tried to investigate
this alleged phenomenon during 9 visits to the ashrams - a total of
well over 1 year sitting at one or two darshans daily - but never could
anyone show it to me. The
fraud 'Halagappa' - a (supposedly) reformed thief who has long presided over
what is often called 'the Thief's Temple' in Sri Ranga Patnam near Mysore
- was reported by Sai Baba's biographer, N. Kasturi, and many others
to possess such a box but he did not have one when I visited him in
1985 and I discussed for hours with him alone. I have seen how people
take smaller and smaller pinches of the stuff to make it seem that it
never runs out... and somehow it gets more precious as the amount diminishes!!
Why have devotees never got independent, critical scientists to carry
out fully controlled experiment to prove that vibuthi does "never
run out" or manifest itself on pictures and elsewhere. The answer
is clear to most people and not least those who see the exposures on
the web and in films of Sai Baba's legerdemain. |
One cannot by the wildest flight of unreason reconcile the even more fundamentalist and intolerant new Pope embracing the Sai Baba doctrine of himself as the only incarnation of Father who sent Christ! Here is a passage by a British journalist resident in Italy which succinctly describes the situation in the Vatican in 2003 (2 years before the accession of Ratzinger to the Papacy).
The case of Don Mario Mazzoleni definitively illustrates the position of the Vatican/Catholic church on Sathya Sai Baba. While former Pater Mario Mazzoleni was formally excommunicated for insisting that Sathya Sai Baba is on a par with Christ, one can only surmise what the present Pope Benedict would make of the worldwide allegations about Sai Baba's homosexuality and abuse.
So much for all the "prophesies" about Sai Baba and the Pope - evidently all just as vain and ill-conceived as other Sai Baba's prophesies and megalomaniacal claims documented in his writings - not to mention the many false rumours and manipulative predictions he implants in gullible people at interviews, knowing they will spread on the grapevine and that he will be able to deny them if held to account!
The New York Herald Tribune published an article containing the following quotation:"Then Tuesday, the first major document of his pontificate leaked out, banning most gay men from the priesthood. For many church experts, the document was an overdue sign that Benedict would, in fact, be an active pope - though perhaps quieter, more deliberative and more surprising than many expected when this very subtle man who had been called "God's Rottweiler" by his critics took office."
"The intolerance not just to other religions, but to other types of Christianity, is unfortunately fostered by the upper echelons of the Church. In August 2000 a Church declaration (called Dominus Jesus and endorsed by the Pope) announced that the Catholic Church represented the only 'valid' and 'genuine' Christian episcopate. Any other type of ordination - either Anglican or Non-Conformist - was simple heresy. Even to many Catholic onlookers it appeared like something from the Middle Ages. The inspiration for such announcements is invariably Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, a man who heads what is called the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith (an organisation that acts as the guard dog against pluralism and tolerance). It doesn't take long to realise that Roman Catholicism is excruciatingly conservative and - like Italy itself- acutely hierarchical." ('The Dark Heart of Italy' by Tobias Jones, 2003)
